Chocolatier is one of the best small files games on the market and has lived up to the high standards set by other games of this genre such as Diner Dash. The first two installments of Chocolatier: the original version and Chocolatier 2: The Secret Ingredients both employed the plot whereby the player traveled around the world and set up factories to sell their chocolate creations. The second installment introduced a new slant where there was a lab area to come up with new recipes. The new third installment of the game Chocolatier 3: Decadence by Design goes one more step up where you are now allowed to create and name the chocolates that you design and that is just the start.

Chocolatier 3 is set in the time period just after WWII around the 1940's. The plot starts with you helping Alex and working towards becoming the CEO of Bauemister Confections. At this time Alex is seeking her husband whose plane was lost in the war. The scene starts in Zurich with basic chocolate bars. As the game proceeds you are introduced to fusion recipes as well as exotic stars and new coffees and blends. There is travel to Toronto, Havana, Tokyo and many other large city areas. Secret ports are an added bonus to discover such as Uluru and a few others along the way.

The factories in this third installment of Chocolatier are different. There is no need to purchase the factories and each is set to make one type of chocolate. This makes the game a bit more challenging as creating one type of chocolate quickly is more difficult but adds to organization and use of your funds. It is possible to upgrade the factories without actually visiting them. On the downside the look and logo of the factories cannot be changed as in previous releases. As in the last game you create chocolates for money or a recipe from characters you meet but there is now the ability to accept challenges which are wired to you and you can have several objectives at a time, sometimes as much as five or six.

Chocolatier 3: Decadence by Design has another large and exciting change. This is the secret testing lab located in Iceland. This is where the ingredients collected can be combined in any way desirable to you and you create your own confectionery items such as coffees, infusions, truffles and much more. There are many blends and some will perform better than others on the market so listening to the feedback from advisers is important. Other options include the toppings, colors and designs on the chocolates as well as the name and description. There are new ingredients to use such as various cacao beans, Balinese, coffee liquors, cream, butter and many different fruits and nuts to name a few.

The Chocolatier series of games is quite enjoyable as it combines tycoon and adventure into one neat package. It requires innovation and strategy as well. If you had fun playing versions one and two, Chocolatier 3: Decadence by Design will be a pleasure to play. It raises the bar and takes the game to a more advanced level. After Chocolatier 3, I can only wait for the next release in this series while enjoying the game play of Chocolatier 3.
